Kim and Ron married at the beautiful San Francisco City Hall joined by an intimate group of family and close friends. Kim was dead set on a big fluffy all blue hydrangea bridal bouquet, because her favorite color is blue, and that wish she got along with many more...

I LOVED working on this wedding, I do say I love a lot of weddings, this is true, but it was so much fun to be a part of this day. This floral style is my favorite to design, and the dresses of both the bride and bridesmaids wore to DIE for. I made table numbers with a lacy border to mimic the eyelet detail in both. A BIG thank you to my sweet friend Yasmin of Floral Theory who just two weeks prior to the wedding recommended me to Matt and Lauren. When I met Lauren and her cute baby boy I knew this was going to be FUN FUN FUN and beautiful too!

The wedding was held at the stunning Christian Brother's Retreat in the hills above the town of Napa, the sky clear for miles, the view from up above breathtaking.

Stephanie and Matt got married at one of my favorite venues the historic Berkeley City Club. She chose a soft color pallet including a combination of ivory, peach, and blush with subtle hints of rhubarb. It was stunning if I must say so myself. The gold, rhubarb, and slate blue accent colors of the linens, votives, and the stationary was a stellar choice made by the bride. The amazing ceremony ribbon back drop (made by the brides man) left me nearly breathless. I was in love, I took so many photos of the space it's embarrassing. The sweet cake was done by Torino Baking which was the perfect ending to a perfect wedding.

Most people only have one wedding to plan, but not Mooyoun and Justin, they married in Hong Kong with a guest count of 500, and just a couple months later hosted another wedding here in the states with 200 guests. I love the crisp white tones with a hint of blue color pallet they choose for there big day. It was another picture perfect bay area day at the Bridges Golf Club.

Typically when you think summer it's all about warmer vibrant colors like tangerine, raspberry, or lemon. Any rules relating to color don't exist when it comes to my world. I believe if you want vibrant in the winter or fall in the spring GO FOR IT. I love green, any shade of green, so naturally green vases, vintage garden books, and part of my flower frog collection to me say summer.

Laura and Dan planned their wedding from the east coast and hosted a beautiful reception at the St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco. The weather leading up to the wedding was rain rain and more rain, which to those planning a destination wedding can be very disappointing. The weather cleared just two days prior to the wedding and laura and dan got a picture perfect bay area day. Having your reception right on the water overlooking the bay is a great treat for out of town guests to get to see. The nautical details were such a lovely added touch. I had such a great time working on this wedding and seeing everything come together on the "BIG DAY".

Congratulations Traci & Zeke!

Traci started planning her wedding enough in advance to get crafty and incorporate really fun elements that added to her yellow an grey themed wedding. I was amazed at all the ideas she came up with not to mention having the time to get them all made.

A few of the personal touches the bride made were.

She collected almost 100 wine bottles for her centerpiece containers, two on each table had the dinner menu printed on them, for favors colorful windmills were made doubling as place cards, painted mason jars were used to hold the place cards (super cute idea), double sided programs with a handle so they could also be used as a fan, and all the personal flowers were made out of fabric flowers.

Corinne and Bing's wedding ceremony was held at Hacienda De Las Flores. Afterwards they hosted about half their guests for a short reception at Hacienda De Las Flores, and later on moved to Hong Kong East Ocean for a traditional Chinese banquet welcoming more than double their guests who attended the ceremony for dinner. Corinne's vision was soft, romantic, and elegant using a mainly soft pink pallet with hints of white, silver, and blue. Her cake was perfect, simple details of fresh flowers, peony and ranunculus, were a perfect accent to a flawless cake made by Carolyn Wong Cakes.

A look into what's been happening around here the past week.

Last week was quite different from most weeks, not just a wedding or two, but a graduation, a senior ball, a wedding, and several orders. I find it much more challenging to have several different color pallets to work with all at one time than just one or two. Who'd a thought I used to do this all the time when I had a retail shop in Los Angeles? I'm a little out of practice I guess, but overall the challenge is really fun and gets my creative juices in gear. I love the way everything turned out and had so much fun making everything.

A new seasonal share in in order for your eyes to feast on. Where there is a mantle there is display. Actually, where there is an empty space there is a display in my world. The mantle is something I see each time I come home, so it seems to get more attention than other spaces around the nest, changing seasonally to keep me interested. A friend recommended I share it, since it's a big part of who I am. So here goes, officially the first mantle share.

Shana & Eugene married at the Hotel Shattuck Plaza Hotel in Berkeley. Finding inspiration from the lobby's stunning modern decor, Shana based her yellow, black and white theme. The stunning red glass chandelier as you enter the building was mimicked in her invites and programs. When I first heard her color scheme the first thoughts I had were: fun, vintage, and modern. Playing off that we did simple centerpieces of all one kind of flower, creating a bold statement to play along with the color pallet. Half the tables had a single arrangement and the other a trio in a modern design. Instead of traditional flowers to mark the ceremony space we created a fun backdrop using rice paper decorations in black, white, and yellow. I loved the way the wall turned out!

I often ask myself what are common patterns with my clients of 2011. Do I have more than one bride with the same name? yes, and how about grooms? yes there too. I did a useless trivia last year, and figure these little things I think about should be shared, so here you have it. There are four women who's names begin with the letter S's, three T's, three C's, one B, one V, one D, and one N. There was a HEAVY purple patter at the start of last year and it ended with a mango, peach, citrus theme. This year I don't see a common thread at all color wise, there is a WIDE variety, and that my friends makes for a more colorful fun world for me. Well I'm sure not the most exciting thing to read, but as the year goes on sharing these weddings and many more will be MUCh more fun.

Coastal Farm Style Shoot

A mere THIRTY days exactly has gone by, and I've thought about this shoot many many times. I'm so excited to finally get to share it with you all. The end results are Stunning if I don't say so myself. What an honor to be a part of such a talented group of wedding professionals. The sweet and talented Emily Read Bentley coordinated the complete shoot. The LONG day was photographed by the amazingly talented Jennifer Turner. We had the honor of using amazing pieces of furniture from Mignonne Decor. The day was nearly perfect, on the coast just north of Santa Cruz at Green Oaks Farm & Retreat. Perfect escort cards provided by Twig & Fig, calligraphy perfection by Georgia Deaver, and Hair & Make Up L'Atellier Salon. Lastly we couldn't have ever done it without the super cute real life engaged couple Erica & Karl, you both were a pleasure to be around.

Congratulations Sarah & David ! The first 2011 wedding is complete, and 2011 is looking VERY exciting as a whole. Sarah knitted her chuppa cover, painted all sorts of letters to match her decor, and made these darling pomanders from starch and string ( I missed that photo opportunity, sorry). Style Shoot went off without a hitch!

I'm thrilled that we completed our style shoot yesterday after having to postpone the first attempt due to rain.

The day couldn't have been more PERFECT! Nestled in the hills above the ocean at Green Oaks Creek Farm and Retreat, Pescadero, CA.

Christmas the Laura Miller way

I love Christmas and wanted to share a few of my many holiday collections with you.

I've been collecting vintage and new items for almost 25 years now. many of them are not holiday related. In my Christmas crates there are several things that each year I look forward to taking down from the attic and making displays around the house. There are several wreaths, snow globes, trees, reindeer, houses, and ornaments. These are just some of the treasure I love to find when I can.

Their intimate wedding took place this past Tuesday, and was planned in a short time with the couple living in both Paris and San Francisco. With a stellar list of vendors, including a cake from Elegant Cheesecakes and the day all captured by Christina Hernandez of Nightingale Photography. They got married at the stunning rotunda at San Francisco's City Hall and had their reception dinner in the private dining room at Boulevard Restaurant in San Francisco.

Blueberry Ginger Jam goodness

Before I decided to jump in full force and create a blog I thought to myself " what will I write about when I'm not in force wedding season. "There are so many things I enjoy" I thought why not share them even if they have nothing to do with flowers. It's about ideas, possibly wedding take-away gifts, or decor. A few weeks ago when I had some free time I thought I'll make a batch of jam, since it was a HUGE hit last holiday season. This year I made it pre-Thanksgiving to give out to vendors and friends as a thanks for everything you do for me during the busy year. Thanksgiving the Laura Miller way

Growing up we always had a large group of people for Thanksgiving dinners, and I love that tradition. Now that I host Thanksgiving at my house I and welcome those who join in to my immediate family with open arms, the more the merrier. Believe it or not flowers and decor typically aren't my focus, it more the food. I love to cook and I love to entertain, but to do both can be a lot for me to take on. I starting planning my decor a little early so I would have the ability to do both. I hope each of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving as my guests and I did.

Doing a single order can be challenging for a few reasons:

1st because I'm studio based, and I don't keep a selection of flowers on hand to choose from, but instead I purchase all my flowers per orders received to guarantee the freshest overall product.

2nd flowers come in bunches of 10 stems for the most part, and to get a beautiful overall combination that works well together in several sizes and shapes without having enough product to make several arrangements can be pretty difficult to do.

3rd It typically takes me hours to fine tune and make something I proud of having just a handful of items on hand.

but my own cutting garden comes in really handy when needed the small touches I love to make each piece unique...

All in all, I love that I have to opportunity to make so many individual gems to share for a birthday, an anniversary, a thank you, a new baby, a congratulations, a holiday, an I'm sorry, and just because I was thinking about you.

It all boils down to I LOVE what I do, and this you may hear over and over again, but I'm one lucky girl to be doing something that I have such great passion for. To all the people in 2010 who ordered one of my "little gems" THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for your orders.

What a way to end the wedding season with 3 weddings!

I realized as I was working this past weekend that orange took preference over all the other colors this season. It started with a lot of purple themed weddings, and then I had a couple pinks, a couple reds, one mainly blue, one yellow, a couple whites, and even a couple greens, but the mango, persimmon, peach was the most popular this season.

Today marks the last wedding of this 2010 season for me, after almost 40 weddings you'd think a break would be welcome, well think again. I love what I do, and am grateful almost every day to be doing something I love. I want to thank each of my 2010 couples for hiring me to be a small part of their special day, you will always be remembered, maybe by the month or colors of your wedding, but never forgotten.

Dia De Los Muertos

I have been fascinated with Spanish style, art, food, architecture, people for as long as I can remember.

Years ago I put together a traditional alter for a Dia De Los Muertos celebration for a client in Los Angeles. She had purchased several traditional items to include in the decor and it was an amazing piece when it was finished.

I have a couple small permanent alters in my home, but last week I decided I was going to decorate my mantle with my "specials" and some items that represent what they enjoyed. It makes me smile when I look at it, and although it's personal I wanted to share it with you.

Danya & Ivar married at The Bellevue Club overlooking Lake Merritt in Oakland. The building is impressive as to how they have kept up the original detail. I love old classic buildings and this is another stunner! Danya and Ivar who own "The Key printing and binding" made every guest a journal as their take away gift, wow, and I got one too, THANK YOU!!!
Danya picked a few of her favorite elements and colors from some of my past weddings and had me combine them
together to come up with a stunning overall look and feel.
I had so much fun this past weekend working on three different events, but I must say the bride and bridesmaids bouquets are now in my "favorites" category.

Congratulations Kathleen and Chris!!!

Kathleen had a clear vision of her wedding day, and with a tiny bit of outside help she created a sunning magical night. The colors were so rich and yummy, the day was beautiful, and her dress to die for. The overall vibe a perfect mix of romantic and vibrant. The candle light mixed in with the up lighting made the venue shine. Her friends created a "incredible" dessert buffet, the catering (Work of Art, S.F.), the DJ (Dave Tutton) and the photography, not the images below (Heather Elizabeth) made for a FANTASTIC team. It was great fun for me to work on this event and see it all come to life.

The extreme efforts put into this intimate wedding of 60 paid off in the end, the Nimitz Mansion looked beautiful. Kim & Eric treated their guests to a magical day of many touches that they enjoyed together as a couple. It started with sangria and tapas on the brick terrace with colorful paper lanterns hung above to create a warm fun atmosphere and finished with English line dancing back under the glow of the brightly colored lanterns. In between there was a sunset ceremony, a favorite cake baked by the talented Carolyn Wong (this was a masterpiece so beautiful I can't believe it was eaten), a family-style meal created by Monica Hobbs Catering ( and her right hand Kathy) that was fantastic! I love the cheerful color combinations of this arrangement, unlike the more monochromatic color combinations I typically do for wedding work. Check out the interesting spray rose, tulip and dahlia blooms. I thought it was really fun and happy.

Fun happy colors are in the air!

I'm loving the mango, persimmon, and coral tones. Lucky me, I have a couple other weddings with these vibrant happy colors coming up soon.

Another first time venue discovery, this time the Mill Valley Outdoor Club. I've seen it from the outside, but until you experience the entire grounds and interior you don't get the complete package. It's so quaint, beautiful gardens nestled away right down town Mill Valley. The indoor space has love craftsman architectural details.

The Berkeley City Club is a stunning venue to have a wedding. Designed by Julia Morgan (Hearst's Castle), it has so many beautiful details as you can image. A covered patio off the main dining room, perfect for a ceremony, outdoor dining, or dancing, with lush vines crawling across the ceiling and open window like spaces. There are courtyards nestled throughout the building on the main floor, these are more like lush little hidden gems of paradise. Arches, columns, leaded glass windows, and more. I was in complete Awe and fell immediately in love with this place just in the middle of Berkeley. Enough about that, let's talk wedding.

Tiffany and Patrick were extremely open to my design ideas, and trying to create elegance on a budget took a little bit of work on all of our parts to make sure it fit with the space and was what they couple had envisioned, but I think in the end we did it. The bridesmaids wore a beautiful slate/aqua blue chiffon dress, the bride an amazing dress from Neiman Marcus that made me think "Sex and The City watch out"!

Had a picture perfect day in Guerneville for their wedding. If you have never visited Dawn Ranch Lodge you really should check it out. It's so beautiful, tiny cabin-like bungalows for lodging nestled amongst redwoods and more beauty than I can describe. The couple spend countless hours on the details, and amongst them they hand painted signs for each guests room on old fence posts, Alison's Father drove his "rarely driven" mint vintage car to the venue about 200 miles away, they hung photos on old doors, and picket fence posts decorated the aisle. Congratulations!

Labor Day has always been the most popular weekend to get married, notes to future brides start planning early, I had between 15-20 inquiries beyond the couples I booked, that I couldn't fit into the schedule. Simply amazing that it's a huge time for merriment, but their is only so much I really want to tackle at a time to still be able to give the attention to detail I strive for. Each event is a work of art, not a mass produced production. I make it a point to be present at each of my weddings, and if I'm unable to be it's always mentioned prior to a consultation.

I had the pleasure of working with three brides this past weekend. Each wedding had a different setting and vibe, I'm really excited to share them all with you.

Jess & Loren came to our initial consultation with a strong sense of the overall design they had envisioned for their wedding day, and I love that.

Fast forward 6 weeks...

The wedding day was non traditional in many ways, no white wedding dress, but a stunning blue short silk dress for the bride, no bridal bouquet (corsages for all the women including the bride), the groom in plum & purple shirt and striped tie (really nice), cool textural elements and clean overall design. I love "different", I love a challenge, and this day is just one of the things that makes my job that much more wonderful. My main challenge was to source vintage white footed containers in less than a month, well I did my best ( about 14 thrift shops and flea markets, no joke), but overall the vessels were a variety of white some old and a couple new. The mix worked really well together, and since I'm not a matchy matchy girl it was all that much better. Even the brides "girlfriends" each has a slightly different corsage to wear. Try something out of the ordinary it truly can be an extraordinary end result.

Lorelei & Will have been married for years, long story, but had wedding number two this past weekend. The ceremony at St. Dominick's Church in San Francisco. What a beautiful church, wow, if you have never visited you truly should check it out, it's really spectacular. They had lunch at Mc Cormick and Kuleto's in a private dining room with a lovely view of the bay.

When you start with a beautiful venue like Trentadue Winery in Alexander Valley you can only end with simply amazing. Ami, Indian, and Paul, Spanish, incorporated a mix of both traditions incorporated into their big day. Including guest being greeted by traditional mariachis, a traditional Indian mandap for the ceremony, a horse for the groom to make his entrance, Saris for the bridal party, yummy food, traditional burgundy and gold with white floral accents for the ceremony decor, and cool but bold colors for the reception. I'm thrilled to share the AMAZING images captured by the talented ANGELA LANG. I spent many hours working on the details to make this day really unique and special, from hand beaded table numbers to two variations printed table numbers along with the perfect holder for each. Adding fun and whimsey with yellow paper garlands and tissue pom poms. Searching my favorite thrift stores and flea markets to find the perfect vintage cut glass pieces to hold mounds of sugared lemons and tiny arrangements. The theme was lemons, the colors yellow, green, and white. The images speak for themselves. This day was a ray of sunshine and bright as a perfect lemon. http://angelalangphotography.wordpress.com/
